Internet Comminications | The Videcom Airline Reservation System was built for the internet to ensure easy distribution and drastically reducing comminucation costs to airlines at a time when legacy systems and networks became outdated and hugely expensive. By distributiing all communications over TCP/IP (Internet Protocol) networks suddenly airlines no longer needed the slow and expensive dedicated leased lines that had been holding back the industry for decades. To access your Videcom System from anywhere in the world all you need is a standard internet connection which can be fixed lines, wireless networks or even 3G mobile networks. |

Virtual Private Networks
Videcom runs on standard internet connections but you can enhance the network security and performance of your airline system by running all user connections through a private network still based on internet protocols and services.
A virtual private network (VPN) extends a private network and the resources contained in the network across public networks such as the Internet. It enables the host computer to send and receive data across shared or public networks as if it were a private network with all the functionality, security and management policies of the private network. This is done by establishing a virtual point-to-point connection through the use of dedicated connections, encryption, or a combination of the two.
The VPN connection across the Internet is technically a wide area network (WAN) link between the sites but appears to the user as a private network link—hence the name "virtual private network"

Tri Band 3G Mobile Networks | To mobilize your airlines IT capability and provide access to your reservations and departure control system your can run the Videcom reservation system across mobile wireless networks. A perfect example of how flexible the system can be would be to run your check-in operations from mobile devices or laptops using a 3G mobile network and even produce IATA compliant boarding passes and bag tags to give the ultimate in mobile check-in. Just the thing you need in remote locations or where your check-in needs to be versatile. 3G, short for third Generation, is a term used to represent the 3rd generation of mobile telecommunications technology. Also called Tri-Band 3G. This is a set of standards used for mobile devices and mobile telecommunication services and networks that comply with the International Mobile Telecommunications specifications by the International Telecommunication Union. The 3G standard is perhaps well known because of a massive expansion of the mobile communications market post-2G and advances of the consumer mophone. An especially notable development during this time is the smartphone (for example, the iPhone, and the Android family), combining the abilities of a PDA with a mobile phone, leading to widespread demand for mobile internet connectivity. 3G has also introduced the term "mobile broadband" because its speed and capability make it a viable alternative for internet browsing, and USB Modems connecting to 3G networks are becoming increasingly common. |
